The article expresses a view on the main problems of the Russian language regarding its functioning and the level of teaching in the contemporary language situation in Russia. The main linguistic problems, in the author’s opinion, are connected with the general decrease of the cultural level of the Russian people, unjustified expansion of the language norm in press and electronic mass media, decrease of the level of language teaching in secondary schools and colleges. The solution to the problem the author sees in stricter language policy and improvement of the teaching process in the Russian educational institutions.
